January's Birthstone - Garnet

Garnet, the birthstone for January, is known for its deep red colour but there are actually many types of garnet. The colours of garnet can range from green through yellow and orange, to the more commonly know crimson and rich burgundy.

This gem, often associated with love and passion, has a history dating back thousands of years, having adorned the ornaments of ancient civilizations. The name "garnet" is thought to be derived from the Latin word "granatus," meaning seed, as the gem's deep red color is reminiscent of pomegranate seeds.

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, garnet is believed to carry symbolic significance, representing friendship, trust, and protection.

A Commitment Stone, it is thought to revitalise feelings, bringing warmth, devotion, understanding, trust, sincerity and honesty. It symbolizes balance, perseverance and strength.

A Root Chakra stone, it is grounding but also renewing and invigorating.

Whether set in jewellery or appreciated in its raw form, garnet serves as a timeless and meaningful token for those born in the heart of winter.
