Amethyst - Birthstone for February

Amethyst is a purple variety of quartz and its colours range from lavenders and pale lilacs to deep rich purple. Its color is caused by traces of iron and aluminum and can depend on its country of origin. The Ancient Greeks believed it could prevent intoxication, and its name is derived from the Greek word "amethystos" meaning "not intoxicating". It is perhaps on of the most recognisable gemstones and is popular in jewellery.

Amethyst is thought to be a protective stone and linked to the third eye chakra, helpful in purifying the mind and clearing negative thoughts, stress and anxiety. It is also a symbol of wisdom, peace and tranquillity.

Amethyst is the birthstone for February and the traditional gift for the 33rd Wedding Anniversary so why not treat someone you love to a piece of Amethyst jewellery. Check out my online shop for birthstone jewellery. Prices start at £9 including mainland UK delivery.
